Boston Beer Drinking Events: May & June

The beer scene in Boston Metro and areas beyond is *hopping* with activity this summer. If you enjoy drinking beer and especially if you appreciate quality craft beer, the following few months present many opportunities to experience and learn about this great beverage.

Below are a few beer drinking events in Boston and elsewhere in MA that sound to be the most fun. I have focused mostly on beer festival events occurring throughout the end of May and June. Check back for an article covering July and August at a later date.



Julio's Spring Beer Fest- May 23

The 8th Annual Spring Beer Fest will bring together 50 breweries and 200 different beers available for tasting. The beer drinking festival will take place at Julio's Liquors on Sunday,May 23rd from 1pm to 4pm. Brewer Charlie Ireland will also be present to answer questions about and help celebrate the unleashing of the new beer, RY(E)AN Ale, which was created by Smuttynose Brewery exclusively for Julio's. The unique Smuttynose RY(E)AN beer is an 8% Red Rye Ale aged in Sazarec rye whiskey, Buffalo Trace bourbon, and Four Roses bourbon barrels. Harpoon Summer Session Beer Festival- June 4 & June 5

The Harpoon Summer Session is an annual two day beer festival by Harpoon Brewery featuring local Boston bands, DJs and a variety of beers by Harpoon and UFO, including Harpoon's newest beer, Harpoon Belgian Pale Ale. The outdoor event is scheduled to occur Rain OR Shine on Friday, June 4th from 5:30pm to 11pm and Saturday, June 5th from 3pm to 11pm. Your $20 cover charge will get you in the door and get you one drink ticket for your choice of beers to drink from your free pint sized beer tasting cup. All additional beers will be offered at $5.00 a pint. For more information call 1-888-HAR-POON ext 3. Hint: All designated drivers will receive free non-alcoholic beverages. To get to Harpoon Brewery by public transportation, take the Silverline SL2 or SL3 from South Station to the Harbor Street Stop. There will also be a Free Shuttle to the Harpoon Summer Session Beer Festival. It will pick partygoers up at regular intervals on Summer Street near South Station, behind the Federal Reserve and along the Fort Point Channel. There will be signs.




Boston Beer Week- June 11 through June 20
@ Various locations throughout Boston Metro and beyond.

Beer Advocate and Boston's Weekly Dig present Boston Beer Week 2010. For the 10 consecutive days from Friday, June 11 through Sunday, June 20, participating pubs, restaurants and/or breweries within and beyond the Boston Metro Area will be offering promotions and beer specials in celebration of the craft beer scene in Boston.

Any venue hosting a beer event can take advantage of this chance to add a free listing on the official Boston Beer Week website. Beer drinkers in Boston as well as any neighborhood or city within the 128- Belt are encouraged to check this site regularly to see the various beer drinking events available, as organized by date. Hint: Beer Advocate promises a Boston Beer Week Pub Crawl, currently scheduled for June 12th. Details have not yet been determined but check the event list for June 12th Boston Beer Week for updates.



St. Botolph's Day Pub Crawl- June 17

June 17th is the day of Saxon Saint, Botolph, whose name the word "Boston" is said to be derived from. Rumors from credible sources say that Dann and Marsha with the Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project are hosting a pub crawl beer drinking event in Boston. Venue specifics and time have unfortunately not yet been determined but save the date and keep checking Beer Advocateand Pretty Things websites for updates.



American Craft Beer Festival (ACBF) - June 18 & 19

Tickets are on sale now for the American Craft Beer Festival (ACBF). This event has been known to sell out so grab your as soon as you are able. The beer fest will take place at the Boston Seaport Hotel and will feature 80+ American Brewers with over 325 beers to sample as well as beer education from experts. Your $40 ticket will get you:

5th Annual Green River Brew Fest- June 26
