Festivities are planned between the hours of 10am and 4pm including dance performances and of course, tours of the lilacs. And for this special occasion only, visitors are welcome to picnic. Ducklings Day Childrens Parade

Children of all ages are invited to the Boston Public Garden to take part in a celebration of the Childrens Book Classic, "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey. The Harvard University Marching Band will lead the kids, who are encouraged to dress up as their favorite ducky characters, in a parade in which they retrace the steps of the ducks as told in the book. The parade will begin at noon but get there as early as 10:30am to pre-register and enjoy the entertainment. The meeting place is on the Boston Common at the base of the Shaw Memorial below the State House. Mothers and children are invited to Drawings: Layered, Upside-Down and Reassembled, a special Mother's Day Workshop at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Families will have the opportunity to represent their family structure through unique art forms with a variety of provided tools and materials. The workshop costs $30 for a nonmember adult and one child; additional adults are $15 and each additional child is $10.

Harvard Film Archive presents Rodrigo D.: No Future (Rodrigo D. no futuro) by Director Victor Gaviria about a character who, in the midst of poverty, abandons his dreams of becoming a drummer in a punk band and turns to a life of violent crime. This film is noted for Gaviria's skillful blend of realism with other styles and for the use of music to show a contrast of happiness in the life of Rodrigo D. Rodrigo D.: No Future was the first film directed by Gaviria, who will make a special appearance at the screening on May 9th. (Note: Gaviria will also be present for screenings of his films The Rose Seller (La vendedora de rosas) on May 7th and Additions and Subtractions (Medellin: sumas y restas) on May 8th; both, also, at the Carpenter Center for the Arts).
